European Fuses
A fuse is an electrical safety device that operates to provide overcurrent of an electrical circuit.
Today there are many different fuse designs which have specific current and voltage ratings, breaking capacity and response times. The time and current operating characteristics of fuses are chosen to provide adequate protection without needless interruption. Electrical wiring regulations usually define a maximum fuse current rating for particular circuits. Short circuit, overload, off-balance loads and device failure are the prime reasons for fuse in the circuit design. A fuse automatically removes power from a faulty system. Application categories and time-current characteristics for Altech Fuses:
The first letter indicates the breaking range:
- a - partial range, intended for short-circuit protection only
- g - full range, intended for general purpose use

The second letter indicates the intended application:
G – General purpose protection
L –Wire and cable protection
M - Motor protection
R – Rectifiers or semiconductor protection
PV – Solar and photovoltaic system protection
Tr – Transformer protection
